A new criminal investigation has been launched by the Bari Public Prosecutor’s Office into the management of Southeastern Railways.
The transport company’s sub-commissioner, Domenico Mariani, handed over the report on alleged golden consultancy and waste in the management of the Apulian transport company to Bari prosecutor Giuseppe Volpe. Accompanied by attorney Michele Laforgia, Mariani met with Prosecutor Volpe and Assistant Prosecutor Lino Giorgio Bruno, coordinator of the public administration pool of the Bari investigative offices. “The prosecutor has assured that he will carry out the directions identified in the report,” Mariani said.
The sub-commissioner then announced that “in-depth investment investigations are underway and an additional report will follow,” explaining that their audits revealed “a system that started in a radial pattern and flowed to the sole administrator, so it was he who interfaced with individual areas and offices.” The investigation was assigned to Assistant Prosecutor Giorgio Lino Bruno, coordinator of the public administration pool.
The report, which identifies numerous irregularities in the management of public money, is a starting point for the Bari judiciary to build on in its criminal investigation. Offenses that could be identified include embezzlement, abuse of office, and fraud. The Guardia di Finanza has already been delegated to conduct the investigations under delegation from the accounting judiciary.”
